One area that has seen a lot of development in recent years is the area around Wertzville Road and Technology Parkway in Hampden Township. And another organization plans to build a facility in the area. Belco Community Credit Union will build a branch on a vacant lot at 4600 Mt. Zion Drive. Belco hopes to start building the 2,292-square-foot facility next spring and the opening is planned for next fall.
The facility will employ four to five people. The new facility will be located on the same street as Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on the street across from a Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel. Belco Community Credit Union has 14 locations as well as an operations center in Swatara Township, according to its website. The project was recommended for approval by the Hampden Township Planning Commission on Oct. 10 and will go before the Hampden Township board of commissioners on Wednesday for approval.
The area near Wertzville Road and Technology Parkway has expanded greatly over the last several years. Large facilities like
UPMC Pinnacle West Shore, the Ortenzio Cancer Center, and the Giant and Weis grocery stores have been built over the last
several years and Penn State Hershey is also planning a new hospital in the same area.
And with the larger facilities have come a lot of smaller businesses to complement the larger facilities like Burger King, Supercuts and Taco Bell.
As far as banking goes, there is a PNC Bank branch inside the Giant Food store on Marketplace Way in the Hampden Marketplace shopping center and there is a BB&T branch at the same shopping center. Both branches have opened in recent years. And Members 1st Federal Credit Union is also building a new 172,000-square-foot headquarters in the same shopping complex, which is expected to be built in 2021. Members 1st will have a branch at the new facility as well. Hampden Marketplace is situated on the other side of Wertzville Road from where Belco is building the new branch.
